I remeber how interesting this was and so set upon making the mask of the Scarecrow villain. I began with some conceptual sketches, i would usually do a few of these but was happy with the first two and a final pencil sketch. I then made the mask from material, cotton and wool. I was very pleased with the results.

Interactive narrative

I found the interactive narrative project a little tricky at first as i have never before used Adobe flash. However, once i was taught the basics it becam pretty simple. For my interactive narrative i decided to create a game where the player must navigate through a level by choosing which direction to go by clicking on certain words or objects. Going along different paths in the game would result in different endings or options within the game.

When thinking how i would involve images in my interactive narrative, i decided to use what i had learnt in the pixilation project and as a result all the animation in my interactive narrative is done through pixilation. I felt this gave my narrative a unique look as it was real life, and yet didnt look natural.

I then decided that the story would involve the player waking up in a basement of a strange house and the objective would be to escape. I decided to use my own house as the setting of the game and proceded to take pictures, moving throughout the house, through every room and remembering how the game would flow.

After this it was a matter of importing all the photos into flash and arranging them in the correct order. This was no easy feat as i also had to include photos for every possibility that the player could choose within the game. After this i entered text on the stills where the player would have to decide what to do and where to go. I decided to make text that was giving the player information white, and text that the player could click on red. This made the clickable buttons stand out and draw attention, making it obvious the player could click on them. I then added music in the form of "creepy mansion music" taken from the Playstation game Resident Evil. This was put on a loop. My original plan was to include sound effects such as doors opening etc, however i ran out of time and couldn't include them before the deadline.

I feel that the most interesting part of the narrative was the inclusion of a villain in the form of a masked murderer. If the player fails to pick up a knife earlier in the game the villain would 'kill' them and they would have to start again. I found the villain interesting as i was able to use a mask i had made a few weeks before as a prop.

When trying to publish my game on the internet i did run into problems. For some reason i was unable to publish the narrative on deviant art. I have yet to be succesful in publishing it.

playing with colours

originals

edits

I chose to use red and pinks, mixed with greens to show contrasting colours within my photos. I also used photos with a bright flahs of light in them as this allowed my to change the bright white light into a dark black colour, creating an altogether different feel for the photos after they had been edited. Where the eye may have tried to avoid looking at the brightness in the original photos, the black becomes more easy on the eye and becomes the focal point of the photograph.

The Meeting

For our one shot short, our group originally decided on the idea of shooting a film as if it was from the perspective of a cctv camera. Due to this and the location being outdoors we decided only to use the light that was already present on the location, but used the nightvision function on the video camera

After viewing the raw footage i decided to present my video as footage recorded by a police officer as an arrest is made, putting titles and subtitles on the video to give it the feel of police property. i also altered the light levels on the footage to try and make it lighter as the original footage was extremely dark. I also decided not to use the sound recorded on the video as it was of poor quality due to only being recorded on the cameras onboard mic. Also, i thought the lack of recorded sound helped give the illusion of a polioce recording.

Our entire group was involved during the filming process. We had three main actors, a camera operator and director/extra. I enjoyed working in a group as people off of camera have a better understanding of what is being filmed and can help tell you what to do and where to stand.

location scouting for our amazing one shot wonder

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270592107188634194" style="FLOAT: left; Rule of thirds involves using a 9 by 9 grid placed over a photograph or piece of footage. This is used to help in the composition of the text, aligning features within it to make it much more visually pleasing. For example, the horizon is usually aligned with the lower horizontal line so the picture is divided equally. By lining up subjects with the lines of the grid, photos can be made to look much more professional.

In the image above, the subject, a wooden house, falls between the upper and lower lines of the grid. This means the subject is centered, drawing the eyes of the audience. The horizon also falls between these two lines, dividing the image equally.

When using the rule of thirds, certain things must be remembered. For example, when photographing a person, they are usually lined up with a vertical line. However, the rule of thirds is usually considered by photographers as more of 'guidelines' as unconventional photos can be taken not using the rule that can look aesthetically pleasing.

Heres a link to all my youtube videos, you can ignore the tiger one, it was just a test for something xD

http://uk.youtube.com/results?search_query=whiterangermrjoe&search_type=&aq=f

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5263507970211432610" style="FLOAT: left; The original stills were edited a number of times before i decided on the final edit. Originally the effects of the photos made them all too dark, and when the brightness was increased made the video look like it was of a poorer quality. I eventually settled on increasing the saturation, adding contrast and a film grain, increasing the brightness and added a slight 'drybrush' effect. Half of the footage used was shot with my friend in the cellar of our house. This allowed us the use of a wider variety of props and controlled lighting. The pool table footage used in the video is only a small amount compared to all the footage shot, i only decided to include as small amount of it so it wouldnt get boring. I felt that the music used (move your feet by junior senior) suited the videos bright and colourful feel.

multimedia technology essay

Write a 300 – 500 word article that tells the audience about a recent multimedia technology that is being or has been developed in the last 6 months and explain what you think the impact of this technology will have upon society.

The Sony Reader, the latest and most revolutionary eBook to hit the market, is a remarkable piece of technology. The actual piece of hardware is the size of a paperback book and is able to contain up to 160 books within its memory. The book is also easy to use and is ‘easy on the eyes’ás it does not contain a backlight and so does not put stress on the eyes. The book is also resistant to glare and so can be used outside and also uses eInk technology to recreate the traditional look of paper books making it easier on the eye.
There has been much skepticism surrounding eBooks for many years. Although many people suggest that paper will become obsolete and eBooks will be the future of literacy, they have never ‘taken off’ in modern society. However, as the Sony reader is a lot more ‘user friendly’ and more advanced compared to existing eBooks, making it much more like a traditional book with the advantages of an eBook, and with an increase in the purchase of eBooks, this may be the final step in making paper obsolete.
The Sony reader seems to be much more practical than traditional books. In future society, where a library may need to contain thousands of books, they may contain the same amount with only a fraction of the space as a single Sony reader may contain and entire author’s works in one book. Also, students may also benefit. Instead of purchasing numerous texts books, they may simply download the literature to their Sony reader. This would give them access to the information they need without carrying around several large text books. eBooks may also be updated with new facts unlike traditional books, giving them an advantage and more use in the future.
Therefore, I foresee, in the future, paper will become obsolete and all types of literature will be contained in a more advanced version of the Sony reader. This will give users access to a wider range of literature in one book, and also reduce the space needed to store the information. This also means that the world’s entire collection of literature may be stored in a single place, creating the single greatest source of information in the world.
Joseph Wheeldon.

here is the official website for the Sony Reader http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/reader-ebook

what do i want to get out of the course???

At the end of the course, i would realy like lots of free software to make my own animations and shiz at home :P Maybe enough of an education to have a good job, but a degree is really more of a side effect of university, liver failure is the main reason people go is'nt it. But i suppose this is bad as apparently recently a guy died from drinking a large amount of vodka in a short amount of time, but i hate vodka anyway. But at the end of university i'd like lots of new friends and the new skills to continue doing what i really enjoy :D

what did i do in the first week???

I had a freaking awesome first week so far.
